Confessions of  Gloss-Aholic

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Since I recently discovered that it’s easiest to write about things you know/love, I thought I’d start a page dedicated to all things beauty, you know… just to feed my addiction.  Since I was younger I’ve always loved experimenting with makeup, hairstyles, nail polish, skin products, etc.  I guess I had to experiment because I didn’t really have anybody to teach me.  My mom never wore much makeup (naturally beautiful) and never fussed much over her hair and grooming. I never really had anyone to learn from.  So, I got brave.  I tried things, lots of things.  Some were pretty, others not so much.  I learned, I played, I had fun.  And that’s really what it’s all about.

I’m not sure when I first picked up my first piece of makeup, but I’m pretty certain it was somewhere around 6th or 7th grade (you know, around the time to start to become conscious of things like how you look, dress, smell…).  Unfortunately all that newfound self-awareness also brings about a plethora of new insecurities and self-doubt.  It’s a natural stage in a young girl’s life, but a sad time to lose such innocence and naive confidence.  Luckily, it’s also a time to start the self-discovery process, and on a lighter note, start dressing and looking more like an “adult”.  That part was a blast! I was always a very very girly-girl.  Frilly dresses, huge hair bows and all.  Of course I was going to love makeup!

So now, here I am, 14 years from the once frizzy-haired, un-made-up yet totally confident, girl I once was.  I’m 25 now.  I have a big girl job.  I have a boyfriend.  I have all the tools I need to make myself presentable and defrizz the crazy mane, and I’m still nowhere close to as confident as that sweet, awkward 12 year old.  But I’m working on it.

(eek.  This picture actually makes my cringe.  Luckily, I’ve since discovered the power of a hair straightener and a good pair of tweezers.  Luckily for ALL of us)

I’d say I’m pretty adventurous when it comes to beauty products.  I’m not afraid to try something new.  I’m always looking for the next best thing.  Over the years I’ve had many experiences with beauty that have led me to where I am today.  I enjoy testing out beauty products.  It’s just fun! It’s like art for your face/body (plus, now I actually need it to cover me up, so it’s multi-purposed).  It’s an expensive addiction to uphold, but it makes me happy, so I battle on.

I’m hoping, with this new page, I can share some of my experiences with you (sorry Pratt, my one male reader).  I’ll share favorite products, new products, crappy products, helpful tips, things I’ve learned (both good and bad), and just anything I feel like my 5 readers might like to know.  Feel free to share your own thoughts/tips/questions as well.  I love beauty talk! 🙂
